At the
age of 80, Senator John Warner of Virginia is about to
conclude an impressive and distinguished career in public service.
Unfortunately, his recent declaration that he will support the
legislation of the opposition party to begin a withdrawal
from Iraq / one of his final acts will not be in keeping
with his record / contradict /
Warner
wants to jump start withdrawal by advocating the removal of
5,000 troops by Christmas.
Losses
have been costly. blood and treasure ... but to leave
prematurely would be to forsake those who have fallen and to
betray those Iraqis who have cast their lot with the United
States in the hope of bringing a brighter future to their
country
The debate is no longer
about whether there will be a troop reduction, but how fast
it will be?
